This blog post is about elevating the life, comfort level and design opportunities for your dog! Surprised? Well, I’ll give you a little backstory first…

Doggy Daze in Design

I have had a pet pooch most of my life. My first dog was a Springer Spaniel named Cy. Cy slept on my parent’s bed, and he never used the Dog House my Dad built for him. (Check out the latest in Dog Houses…)  Then we had Salukis, three of them.  If you don’t know what they look like, check them out… they totally hogged the couch, and made you feel guilty if you infringed on ‘their’ space! (Check out the latest in cute and comfy beds…)

My husband and I enjoyed our Golden Retriever, Bailey for 13 years, she was a lovely dog but suffered from allergies and heat spots, a lot. Bailey was the most un-golden Retriever around!  Never retrieved, and did not enjoy swimming!

Then, after a ‘paws’, hehe, our Hungarian Vizsla, Diego (Note above: he loves our sofa…).  Diego is now a senior at 12! He has a lot of white on his face, his paws, legs and through his coat.  He’s been from Canada to Australia and back again- he is very well-travelled.

As the various doggies in my past have shown me, they each required different things.  They wanted special areas to sleep, lounge, interact, bathe and play.  I love all the cool things that people have designed to make it less of a ‘dog’s life’, and hopefully more comfortable and fun!

So, here we go into some of the latest in dog houses,

All this, because so much of our time has been spent at home with our pets. And, my dog has been a stabilizer for me during Covid, with ritual walks, and a calming and beautiful demeanour- we all recognize the importance of pets. I wanted to bring you some inspiration to tackle projects around the house, like making a mudroom dog spa combo, or for the feline friends, a catio!

I just love this idea!

When doing some research for hacks on how to improve life for your pooch, I discovered all sorts of easy, entertaining, and practical ways to create clean, calm and cool for your dog.  Check it out…

Shower caps in showers, dryer sheets for static electricity (rub on their fur),  kongs stuffed full of treats, baby pools filled with ice for those stinking hot days, frozen chicken stock in ice cube trays for a pupcicle, ramps and stairs for cars and beds, toys and beds made with old clothes, elevated food and water bowls, vaseline on dog pads for soothing, dog toothpaste on a pull toy, changing out their toys for fun, baking soda for odour removal, using a piece of tape or a credit card to remove bug stingers, training to catch with popcorn and so much more…
