Time for all the creative romantics to get their game on!  This time of year usually brings out all the reds, pinks, soft blushes and frosty whites to this one day affair- especially if you’re a traditionalist!  But, I am not, really, a traditionalist, and tend not to follow any hard and fast rules when it comes to theme decor.  However… I still love  me some chocolate and flowers!  Haha!

So here are my 5 quick tips for Valentine’s Décor:

  • Create vignettes highlighting your existing colour palette! Really?  Yes!  But what if I have blue and black?  Well, love knows no colour!  Choose your colour and stick to it.  PRO TIP: Create a cohesive look with no more than 2 primary colours and 2 secondary colours.  For example, Gold and Black primary, Silver and White are secondary.

  • Don’t limit the décor to one room, like the living room or dining room. Carry your colour theme and creative flair by using Valentine’s décor throughout your home.  Decorate with plants, food, textures, pillows, accents, or even a collection of these.

  • Subtlety is your friend! The trick is decorate with what you have, and enhance the spaces where you’ve created a little somethin’ somethin’!!  Kind of like your debut at PROM.  You want to shine, but you don’t want to stand out like a sore thumb.
  • Little lights and touches of gold add sparkle and ambience.

  • Surprise your loves with your romantic resourcefulness. Take that Christmas garland and repurpose it over the mantle.  Show off your new bedding by pairing it with a soft and sexy robe, throw blanket or cushion.  Mix it up, and find that “thing” that resonates with you, and run with it.  PRO TIP: Valentine’s Decor can be themed with a colour, a meal (fancy tablescape), special photography (black and white, or boudoir pics), a special outing (sweet treats and hot chocolate in a thermos on a back country road…) etc.

  • Engage the senses in your delivery. Think about more than an impulse purchase in the queue at the checkout counter…. Valentine’s Decor can mean to fill a room with helium balloons, or fill it with their favourite scent, from candles, oils, or flowers, hang garlands or personalized bunting, make a sweet and fancy charcuterie board, create a Valentine playlist.  Your thoughtfulness is what counts here!
