Autumn vibes!  There is nothing quite like the transition time from Summer to Fall.  Definitely my favourite season, and for good reason.  Usually my garden is crying for some much needed rain, there are beautiful carpets of leaves to kick, puddles to jump in, the air becomes crisper, cooler and fresher, and the days open up like layers.

It’s time to get your home fall ready with me and these finishing touches will really elevate your space for Fall.

Let’s start with fall colours.  My favourite hues are burnt orange, deep burgundy and olive green.  Toss in some neutrals and this palette can be worked all over the house.  In your living room, change out a couple of your throw cushions (cushion covers), with different textures, patterns and your favourite deep saturated colours.

Along with the cushions, don’t forget the cozy throws.  Maybe you like hand knit blankets, or maybe you like plush velvet, what about faux fur?  Your choices for colours and materials are endless.  I do suggest that you keep your colour palette to 3 colours overall.  One primary, and two secondary.

Next, bring in extra light.  The days get shorter and darker pretty quickly, so I like to have ambient lighting around the house.  Small table lamps have become more readily accessible and you can put them in all your common spaces.  They add interesting character and charm, if you like.

One of my favourite things with Fall’s arrival are the scents of the season.  Pumpkin Spice may not be your thing, but let’s talk about how incorporating scented candles is something you could classify as self-care!  I personally love the smell of apples and cinnamon, pumpkin pie, wet leaves, maple butter, toasted nuts and so many more…go crazy!  It’s an easy and affordable way to bring in Fall.

Another great way to toast the season is with foliage.  There are a number of ways you can do this; the easiest is to collect fallen leaves.  Hello gorgeous colours!  Foliage in the form of branches is also very beautiful.  If you have access to trees that need to be pruned or plants and bushes that have beautiful leaves, then go for it!  Leafy stems in big vases, or even funky branches on their own often add interesting architectural elements.  Also, dried and the fresh cut flowers at this time of year are absolutely stunning!  And there’s also the local grocery store and local foraging!  No excuses!  Haha

Fall is the time in my house, when I really dig into books and read.  I like to have books all over the house, and on the ready to pick up and read, stack, display and discuss.  I use new books, collected, vintage and magazines as well.  They can make your space feel extra cozy, and warm cups of tea sit well on them, too!

Fall decor is more than word art, buffalo check and halloween stuff.  It can be things like chestnuts, acorns, pumpkins, pears, apples, leaf wreaths and garlands, boughs, candlesticks, blankets, board games, ceramics, wood and more.  My favourite ways to decorate include using a mix of new and modern with aged and interesting.  I like to have fun with it.

Lastly, don’t forget that how you put your pieces together and style the above items will help you create your own personal, warm, and elevated space.  Edit and curate to put your own stamp on things- and relax!  You deserve it!  P.S.  Reach out if you’d like to work together!  I’m here for ya 😉

Happy Fall y’all!
