We are reaching that time of the year in the Northern Hemisphere when the days and daylight are at their shortest, and we spend a lot of time inside.  This indoor time can be a time of relaxation and reflection- as well as a time for some creative interior decorating and problem-solving!

1) If you haven’t guessed it already, one of the easiest and most impactful ways to change up your space and bring in new life and love to your interiors – is to paint!  Yes! Paint!  If your home hasn’t had a fresh coat of paint in a while, consider lightening up!  The time to bring in the light and bright is now!  Positive vibes for our psyche and also how your home will look and feel- Paint is one of the easiest methods of restoring your walls to their former or newer glory!Interior Design Solutions

2) Along the theme of keeping our interiors light and bright over the winter, is to change up the lighting!  How old are your light fixtures in the bathroom?  Are they actually bright enough if you do not have natural light?  With an array of LED’s on the market and a vast assortment of styles to choose from, lighting can be a modern reflection of how we live indoors!  Choose fixtures that suit your décor, but don’t go overboard on matching!  Sometimes we have a tendency to pick out items in pairs or to follow a trend. Choose bold if you like it- but make sure it goes with the rest of your home!

3) When did you last replace your backsplash tiles?  What about the tiles in your entrance or even your shower?  If you’re looking for a quick return on a feel-good redesign- choose tiles!  Tiles offer so much more now as shapes, textures, colours, sizes, and materials are endless!  Make a statement in your powder room!  Create a showstopper around your fireplace!  The opportunities to design and create unique and updated areas around your home are there!  And for the winter months- a fun project! 4) Good storage and shelving improves the look of space and flow while also helping your organization!  We all want to have a place to put things and to keep our homes feeling neat and clutter-free.  Search for ways within your space to carve out some storage. Put items into bins and boxes and label them.  If you want to display your much-loved Aunt Ness’s Silver Spoon Collection- then keep it all in one place and only highlight that one collection!  Too much of too many collections – looks too busy! Put shelves up over doors or under some stairs to gain more storage. Take items from around the house and make racks or shelves out of them.  Vintage ladders are great displays for blankets and tapestries.

So- have I convinced you?  The Winter Blahs can be beat!  If you need help choosing paint colours or light fixtures or even tile- then I am here for you!  I would be more than happy to help you create your indoor dreams!!  Joy & Peace!!  Melissa
