Hello, Hello!  How are you guys?   I mentioned in my last blog that my number one place that Interior Designers find inspiration was travel… There is just no better way to escape, get out of your head and away from your own everyday!  And this blog post is about my trip to the U.K. this past August, and the holiday travel inspiration that went along with it!

A picture is worth a 1000 words…

Images really do tell a story.  I had such a fabulous trip. It was intentionally designed to see as much as possible and it also gave us a ton of flexibility…A driving holiday where we happily packed on the kilometres, and my hubby did all the driving!  Because hey… as a former rally car driver, he totally loved all the backcountry, winding roads!  😉

Castles, Gardens- sigh…

Trip Itinerary

We started off with two weeks in Ireland.  I booked all of our accommodation in advance.  Going in August means high season so no car camping here!  We met our friends from Australia, and started in Dublin.  We drove around Ireland, and Northern Ireland.  Totally, totally amazing!

Pub Life in Ireland…

From Ireland, we flew to Edinburgh, Scotland.  We continued our holiday in a rental and drove around Scotland.  We hit Edinburgh, Gatwick, Invermere, and also the beautiful Isle of Skye, and the Orkney Islands.  We visited Castles, Abbeys, Monasteries, Museums, Inns, Pubs, Mountains, Parks, and more…

After Scotland, off to Wales via Liverpool, and the Lake District.

Here’s some of our Amazing Accommodations…and yes we stayed in these!

From Hotels…

to B&B’s…

to Pubs…

to luxe accommodation… (our very last night),

We hiked to the top of Mount Snowden, the highest peak in Wales.  It was a slog, and it was cloudy and cool.  But hey, I made it!  Wales is gorgeous, and I’d love to go back and explore some more.  Beautiful fishing villages, castles on the beach, mountains, valleys and lovely, lovely people that I cannot understand!  hehe !  Thank you navigation!  😉

Signs in Welsh/English!

From Wales, we then drove through the Cotswolds, in England.  So picturesque with cottages and canals, little villages and thatched roofs!  You feel like you could be an ‘extra’ in Pride and Prejudice!

Last up – Devon and Cornwall.  This took us along the jagged cliffs and coastline of England, to surfing towns, to ancient ruins to rocky beaches!   Truly spectacular!

Yes!  We covered tons of ground!  So much we wanted to see, and so much we wanted to do!  I hope that you’ll find some holiday inspiration here as well!  All pics are mine!  Oh, and if any of these inspire you, then that makes me very happy.  🙂
