Have you ever struggled trying to find something special for your Dad for Father’s day? You know, how to elevate cool for Dad this Father’s Day?   Well, I know I certainly did! When our Dads’ are unique and special and don’t fit into any particular niche market for your ‘typical’ promotional flyer, whaddya do??

Backstory…

And just a little backstory of my own Dad- he has had a full beard for almost my entire life… So no shaving kits and accessories or pretty much anything related to skincare! My Dad doesn’t drink- so, no specialty collections of spirits or reserve wines to curate. My Dad has never been into sports, nor did he have your typical hobbies or general interests. My Dad is a keen sailor! These pics are just a snippet of his passion! But- I’m giving you a small picture of my 1st world struggles here!!

Over the years, my observation of cool gift ideas for Dads, has come in examples of Dads themselves! My Dad was an avid vinyl collector of classical music, a creative artist using mixed media and hand tools, a sailor and world traveller. I did my best to recognize his cool factor! But my point is this: Elevate cool for the Dad’s in your life by recognizing their own uniqueness and talents.

Ideas…

If they love to cook– take a cooking class together or get them the funkiest apron or best knife and chopping block you can afford! If they are book lovers and read as a hobby- then buy them a Book Club subscription and read together. If your guy is into camping or fishing – well the sky is pretty much the limit here! But notch it up by selecting unique items like portable campfires or portable shower kits or something fun and different that they’ll enjoy!

It’s all about…

There are Dads that like to shred the gnar, board the bowls, rip the curl, race the track, climb the highest peaks, or scuba the deepest blue depths… Here, can I just say- carve out time with these guys! They love speed, silence, adrenaline, and have spidey-senses that are pretty hard to shop for! And I should know- I married one myself, and produced 3 offspring that are all the same- haha!

Pro Tip:For the collectors and enthusiasts, there are so many beautiful items you can give your loved ones. For Home Entertainers and connoisseurs I suggest something shiny like a cocktail shaker or a leather-embossed wine kit, take a cocktail course together or how about a wine club membership? For the Home Chef, what about some new pots and pans, cooking classes together or a swanky Italian Coffee Machine? Music lover? How about new monogrammed headphones, recording session or concert tickets?

Final Thoughts…
So what if your man doesn’t have a ‘thing’ that you can put your money into?  There are also ‘experiences’ that tend to have long-lasting memories and can be shared!  And I might add that with all the things– the dollar spend, isn’t what is important, is it?  So what is the answer to How to elevate cool for Dad this Father’s Day?  I’m going with when you elevate cool for your Dad, it’s about what resonates with him and that is what you are celebrating and honouring for Father’s Day.

Melissa 🙂
