It’s not just decoration…

When it comes to decorating we have left the more traditional color schemes behind blue for boys and pink for girls.  Here’s why… more people are focusing on keeping spaces either gender-neutral, or easily transitional, being wise, and making the right investments so that we aren’t looking at changes every five years! This applies to all rooms and spaces for decorating, but babies and kids’ spaces are typically changed over a bit more frequently.

Black & White Nursery

Pro Tip: Some essentials in creating a nursery include the crib, a comfortable chair of some sort, a dresser and change table and some form of warmth and texture found in area rugs, baskets, wallpaper, blankets, wall art, ottomans, mobiles, baby toys and lighting.

Neutral Nursery

Classic and timeless pieces for Nursery Decor include:

Rattan pieces, wire and cloth baskets, solid shelves, dressers, ottomans, area rugs, neutral pendant lights or floor lamps, and forms of storage

Personal Preference directs How to Style a Baby Nursery

  • Am I going to use the investment pieces down the road? (these would include dressers, area rugs, lounge chairs and even lighting).
  • Do I want to keep the space neutral, or do I want to theme it? In saying theme, i suggest something simple, and easily transitional to toddler. (this could include small animals, galaxy (planets and stars), jungle, forest, nautical, and so on.
  • Is this space shared by any other family members? How will it impact them? Are there siblings? Do I have the room to create a small niche or area that is dedicated to baby?
  • What is my budget? We can all agree that when it comes to baby, we want to provide the champagne option- however, not all of us can. In saying that, can I DIY anything? Can I shop online, via FB Marketplace, or Etsy and create a unique space without breaking the bank? Because brand new nursery furniture ain’t cheap!!

Where does your inspiration come from?

My European background and frequent visits to relatives in Germany, in addition to my love of natural materials found in wood, wool and fibres, makes me a bit of a sucker when it comes to the more natural, rustic and wooden themes. It was also what I grew up with – a lot of simple, natural and handmade. So, whether you love the colours found in woodland creatures like russets, tans, greys and stone, or possibly the hues in moss, leaves, clouds or sunsets… Let’s take a look at all the baby goodness, shall we?!
