Revised – October – Sage is all the Rage

Just in – Benjamin Moore’s 2022 Colour of the year…

Benjamin Moore’s October Mist falls on the silver side of a pale sage green, “evoking the stem of a flower,” they note. It’s pale enough to act as a neutral canvas for other shades, but it’s particularly lovely with lilac.

From wall paint, to cabinetry,  tiles, home furnishings and details in decor and housewares.  Here’s a little moodboard inspo for you!

sage is all the rage

Sage is great for using as a neutral in your space.  Its subtle grey green is reminiscent of the herb, plants and the warm and subtle texture found in its namesake.

Likely the reason we are drawn to sage again is for its organic nature, a sign of the times, and our need for softness, and layered textures around our homes.

You can find a ton of Sage coloured items in IKEA, Bed Bath & Beyond, Etsy, Williams Sonoma, Society 6 and pretty much anywhere you feel like shopping for smaller household items.  If you’re ready to step into the bigger ‘Sage’, then there are gorgeous hues found in paint colours like Farrow & Ball, Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams.  Below, Farrow and Ball.

Maybe you like the colour enough that you’d redo your cabinetry… well, go for it!  Sage is here to stay, and it’s soft and subtle nature is what we’re all craving.  Keep your cabinet lines clean and simple, though.

And so pale greens become that universally attractive, nurturing and soothing shade right now. The team’s metaphor that October Mist is inspired by the colour of a flower stem extends beyond its literal shade, too. “The stem supports other flowers, and we kept thinking about that as we were pulling our palette together,” says Grech. “That colour, we wanted it to support every other colour in the palette.”

Just like we could all use a little support right now, too.

So, green lovers unite, pick out your favourite sofa, armchair or featured artwork, Sage is the rage, and it’s definitely center stage!
